Many businesses have suffered from toll fraud, when their systems are used for long distance calls by other people, leaving them to pay the bill. Industry estimates vary, but most place the average cost per toll fraud incident between $10,000 to $30,000.
Many telecommunications systems that have been installed for a while are vulnerable to toll fraud. Swartz Consulting, LLC performs audits of telephone and voice mail systems to determine where they are open to fraud, and makes recommendations for changes which will minimize our client’s risk of becoming a toll fraud victim. Depending on the client’s system, we can in some cases make the recommended changes for the client.
We also recognize that a balance must be achieved between the security needs of a company and the business needs of the phone users. Therefore, where appropriate, we will offer various options to our clients and help them weigh the security risks against the “ease of use” issues for the end users.
In addition, we do physical audits of our client’s facilities to determine whether they are at risk in terms of physical access. In many cities, circuit cards have been stolen out of phone rooms by people who pose as phone vendors. These types of issues are covered by our security audit, to ensure that our clients know where they are at risk.
